Bluestockings, a feminist bookstore that has hung tough on the Lower East Side for more than two decades, needs your help.
One of just 13 feminist bookstores in America, the 16-year-old shop and activist center just signed another five year lease at their 172 Allen Street Digs, Bowery Boogie reports. But the re-up came at a cost, and moreover, the place is in need of significant renovation.
The store has launched an Indiegogo campaign, which has raised more than $4,000 of its ambitious $50,000 goal.
"As we plan ahead for the next five years, Bluestockings believes that physical renovations to our storefront are vital to meeting demands of an ever-changing publishing industry and expanding our customer base," its managers write. "We are are excited to invest in making much-needed improvements to the space, and are asking for your help to do so."
