We tried our best to bury our heads in the sand on this Justin Bieber... thing, but this is just something we're going to have to come to terms with, like shingles and Uggs. The young recording artist, who has previously caused mass hysteria in shopping malls, is all over Manhattan this week; according to his Twitter (which we don't follow obsessively or anything) he's appearing on BET's show 106 and Park today and Letterman's show tonight. Yesterday Bieber was charming Barbara Walters on The View, but outside the studio one teen's whole entire life was RUINED when she couldn't get in to watch the taping. We know this because the girl's mother sent us an outraged e-mail, with the subject title, "ABC's the View leaves Justin Bieber's teenaged fans out in the cold!!!!" Hope you've got a box of tissues ready, because this one's a tearjerker:
Shame on ABC's the View! I arrived at the View with my teenaged daughter and her friend on Sunday evening at 10:00 pm. The girls were so excited that they were the first ones on line. We were there to get standby tickets for The View for Justin Bieber for Monday's show. We spent a total off 15 hours in front of The View, overnight in the cold, and all morning in the pouring rain. At 8am an intern came out and divided the line in two, one for ticket holders and one for standby tickets. We were given standby ticket numbers 1, 2, and 3 and were told to come back at 9:30 am. The intern started to let the ticket holders in, keep in mind that almost all of the ticket holders were middle aged women who didn't even know who Justin Bieber was, and watched people being let in because they were "on the list" ie: "they knew someone"
What kind of sick world do we live in where people with inside connections get preferential treatment? And it gets worse for our heroes:
At 10:30 am we were told that they would not be honoring any standby tickets because they had enough of an audience in the studio already and not to even bother coming for the next day's show (Justin Bieber was going to be at the View for two consecutive days, Monday and Tuesday 3/22 and 3/23). What???????? So the studio is filled with middle aged women, who don't even know who Justin Bieber is, who just turned 16, and they aren't going to let any of his teenaged fans into the studio? My daughter and her friend started crying and one of the workers from the View said "now don't start crying, shouldn't you be in school anyway???" Unbelievable!! Ok, now to add insult to injury, I took the girls around the back to see if they could at least see him when he was leaving the show, stood in the pouring rain from 10:30am to 1:00 pm, his black van rolled out of the View about 1:00 pm, and he didn't even roll down the window to wave at the girls who were standing in the pouring rain to get a glimpse of him!!
And today, our tipster could barely contain her rage, when she "watched the View and they had a recap of yesterday's show with Justin Bieber. They showed Miley Cyrus with a little girl, clearly not '16 years of age or older' as they say their policy is... I guess their 'age policy' only applies to the fans waiting on standby, not for those who have a 'connection.' Very unfair." You know, there aren't enough teary-eyed emoticons in the world to express our dismay over this tale of elitism and injustice. We're tempted to boycott both The View and Justin Bieber, but, to be honest, we're not quite prepared to make that great a sacrifice.
