Jersey City residents, this may be the beginning of the end: Snooki and J-Woww have arrived to film their show.
Hoboken was actually the first choice of the Jersey Shore spin-off's producers, but Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer rejected it, citing public safety concerns. Jersey City Mayor Jeremiah Healy happily stepped in, "The more people that see anything about Jersey City and see what we have in Jersey, the better it is for Jersey City." Of course, Jersey City is making sure that cops are around the duo at all times.
According to Jersey Journal, "The two were seen on Mercer Street in downtown Jersey City in their black and pink Cadillac Escalade. Initial filming started today, but the first full day of filming will be tomorrow, said Lt. Edgar Martinez, spokesman for the Jersey City Police Department." Martinez also referred to their Escalade as a "pimp-mobile." One resident said, "I'm a little starstruck. I didn't think I would be, but I went over to see why everyone was here, and there was Snooki. She was so small."
J-Woww and Snooki are living in a former firehouse on Mercer Street for the next six weeks. A neighbor (who has two small children) said, "I am a little concerned about how this affects the parking and the noise levels at night... Still, I'm trying to be open-minded about the whole situation." Unlike a local wine shop, which posted a "No Snooki" sign.
In the meantime, yet another part of New Jersey has refused to welcome the saucy Shorers: Newark Mayor Cory Booker wrote to the production team, "While we appreciate your desire to film and capture the essence of our great city, we are confident that the filming of this show will most certainly attract a high level of local and national attention and notoriety." Booker's big issue was the fact that if there were any incidents between Snooki and J-Woww and anyone else, Newark's already overtaxed-emergency personnel, "I hope you can appreciate that my first priority is the safety and well-being of citizens and visitors." We suppose that's why the show is reportedly called Snooki and J-Woww Vs. The World.
