Larry David has been getting rave reviews for his Broadway debut, Fish In The Dark, but months before the play debuted he was already looking for ways to get out of starring in it. Now that it's a sold-out hit, David has finalized his exit strategy: bringing in Professional Larry David impersonator Jason Alexander to replace him.

The Times reports that Alexander will takeover the role from David as of June 9th, and the show will extend its run at the Cort Theater through July 19th. "I've enjoyed it, but as my mother used to say, 'Enough is enough,'" David told them. "I am sure the cast will be relieved to be working with a professional." This will likely free up David's schedule for more hotel sex.

David actually claims that he wrote the role of Norman Drexel in the play for Alexander, and was then convinced to do it himself by one of the show's producers. Alexander sounded unperturbed by the idea of following in David's footsteps once more, as he did when he played David-stand-in George Costanza on Seinfeld: "The character is not George Costanza," Alexander told the Times. "It’s not like I can just put that slipper back on. It doesn’t frighten me, but it’s not a slam-dunk."

While we agree that a slipper is not a slam-dunk, if anyone can give the role the je neurotic sais quoi that it deserves, it's him.
