There are some movies you expect to get a sequel (Avatar, Thor) and there are some movies whose sequels aren't expected but aren't really that surprising (The Hangover, Babe). And then there are those rare movies that most of us would never think to make a sequel to but get them anyway (Bad Lieutenant, Rocky Horror Picture Show). If you'd asked us yesterday, Spike Lee's 1989 Bed-Stuy classic Do The Right Thing fell firmly into that last group. But that was then. This morning the director tweeted about a new Spike Lee joint, Blackfilm did a little digging and what do you know. Lee's next movie, Red Hook Summer, may well be Keep Doing The Right Thing.

Or it might be a prequel. Or it might be a spinoff. But Blackfilm is adamant that Lee will be reprising his role from the original movie, Mookie, for the new joint. "Details on the plot are limited," they say, "but a close source has informed us that the story centers on an adult from Atlanta who comes and spends the summer in Red Hook section of Brooklyn, NY."

Whatever Red Hook Summer turns out to be, it is completely out of left field. Just last week Lee was talking to the Hollywood Reporter about why he hadn't made a feature film in three years and didn't mention this project at all. Most recently Lee has been rumored to be circling an Oldboy remake as well as an HBO series based on the life of Mike Tyson. Whatever the case, it's nice to have a new Lee joint coming down the pipeline.
