We're bringing back our Guess The Year series—every Thursday we'll post an old New York photo along with zero information, and you can leave your best guesses in the comments.

First up: this may look like it belongs more in Malibu, but it's an old spot that operated in one of the 5 boroughs. Can you guess where and when, and what exactly this place was? We'll update with all the information we could find.

Cheaters get detention.

UPDATE: We came across this photo in the New York Public Library's digital archive, and were kind of stunned it was taken in New York City. The library's caption simply reads: "May's—view of building, patio with umbrella tables, dance hall entrance, sign advertising May's Hotel Bar and Grill."

May's was on Staten Island, and Cinema Treasures they say it "was actually built on the sands, between South Beach and Graham Beach," next to the Strand Theater. When May's took over the space from the Grand View Hotel in the 1930s, it converted the old theater into the dance hall you see in the photo.
