Yesterday about 200 women of all ages, some not even planning weddings, waited for hours outside Filene's Basement on the Upper West Side for the annual "Running of the Brides," where thousand-dollar gowns are sold at massive discounts. (Check out the crazy video below.) Nikki Saucier, one of the first women in, declared, "This is war! We are going to grab as many dresses as we can and head for a mirror." This is what happens when you have a society based around the Wedding Industrial Complex.

Saucier and her family, all wearing shirts reading "Drunk is the new black," waited outside Filene's starting the afternoon before, braving sleep depravity and bird poop. Filene's also had some tips for brides, such as to wear a bathing suit so you can change anywhere and to wear matching t-shirts to you can find your "team" in the crowd. That worked out for Saucier, who found her dream dress for $249 after discarding 65 others. For anyone who missed it, the next "Running of the Brides" will be taking place in Boston on March 11th. We want to see what the Fung Wah looks like the day after.
