You can breathe a sigh of relief, Popeye Doyle fans: Gene Hackman is okay after getting hit by a car while riding his bike in the Florida Keys. His rep told People, "He's suffered minor bumps and bruises and is already on his way home."
Hackman was on his bike when a driver hit him from behind. The AP reports, "Hackman was riding without a helmet on an Islamorada street around 3 p.m. when the pickup hit him, throwing him onto the grassy shoulder, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report." He was airlifted to a hospital (where he was reportedly given the VIP treatment) and police have not filed charges against the driver.
Hackman, who turns 82 on January 30, has flouted traffic rules before—check him out in The French Connection and The Royal Tenenbaums.
