Phil Collins Day is a holiday that refuses to be commercialized—each year it pushes itself further to the periphery, refusing to be Hallmarked. But we continue to celebrate.
This year the official Phil Collins Day celebration will only bring out the die hardest of Phil fans, willing to freeze for their tuchuses off for the troubadour. The vague details declare the event to start at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday (when it will be about 3 degrees), at 90th Street and the beach in Rockaway.
The invite, which includes the above photo alluding to some sort of viking funeral, reads: "Join us at the jetty to bid farewell to all those things that make you feel like you can't find your way." It's possible this holiday is actually more depressing than Valentine's Day.
