It's October, so it's time to start thinking about cable knits, tights as pants, cool weather cocktails, and the leaves changing color. While the I Love NY map (below) is showing that we aren't seeing any color yet, they believe we'll be seeing some by early November (which is pretty typical). To get more answers, we went to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's arborist, Chris Roddick.
Roddick tells us he’s actually seeing some fall color "appear earlier this year than is typical, probably due to the hot, dry summer we had. There’s some color in the dogwoods, oaks, and maples. Different species respond differently to the environmental factors that trigger fall color, which helps ensure a spectacular show of color throughout the season here at BBG (and elsewhere!) instead of a one-and-done phenomenon."
If you see any colorful, cold dead leaves out there, please alert our tips line, and don't forget the photographic evidence.
