The sun is out, the skies are blue and New Yorkers of all types who like their partners in uniform are happily putting up proposals on Craigslist. Why? Because that annual invasion of our shores by strapping men and women in uniform, Fleet Week, is upon us!

The annual descent of thousands of sailors on the shores of the Big Apple has been a New York tradition since 1984 and brings with it a whole lotta activities for sailors and New Yorkers alike, from Broadway showcases to free ship tours. For boat buffs, a major highlight this year is the return of the USS New York, forged with steel from the WTC, to the city. If you've been aching to get aboard the vessel, it'll be open for tours at on Staten Island starting tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. This is the first time the boat has been back to New York since it was commissioned in 2009.

Of course mounting boats isn't what many New Yorkers (including some bus drivers!) look forward to come Fleet Week. And for those folks there are the city's many, many bars both straight and gay (as one Yelper put it last year, "fleet week is NYC's official gay week long holiday. it's like passover for gays.") are embracing the event. And if you don't want to go out to catch some sea men? There is always Craigslist, which is already starting to fill up with offers to service our nation's servicemen. From lady sailors looking for other ladies, to gentleman sailors looking for ladies, to "Masc bi frat bros" looking for afternoon delights, it seems like if you've got a uniform it is not hard to get lucky (and by that we obviously mean get a "platonic" massage).

Fleet Week blows its load June 1—will you be seeking out a sailor before then?
