One way to celebrate the late, great, John Belushi? Announce a musical version of Animal House on the 30th anniversary of the star's death. Because, yeah, that just happened. And the icing on the cake? The Barenaked Ladies are writing the music. Hey, it kinda worked for Bono and the Edge.
The news of the musical version of the adventures of the Delta house was announced today by Universal Pictures Stage Productions. The show will have a book by Michael Mitnick and will feature original music by the triple platinum Barenaked Ladies. On the plus side, it'll be directed by and feature the choreography of Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, The Drowsy Chaperone) when/if it ever sees the light of Broadway.
And considering the other ill-conceived musicals slowly inching towards the Great White Way (Tupac, The Bodyguard, Ghost) we guess it could be worse. At least Animal House has lots of big set pieces built right in. For (just one) example:
