Even though they complained a whole week ago, residents of DUMBO are still dealing with those troublesome Hollywood types invading their once quaint cobblestone streets. Just days after their outcries reached the newspapers, Law & Order: SVU infiltrated the neighborhood, just as their signs forewarned. According to the NY Post, the production took up nine blocks of parking spots (and we can confirm that even the parking garage was filled to capacity on those days). And don't even get us started on that old cop car blocking Pearl Street last week!
Other people to blame for residents not being able to enjoy the quality of life they have become accustomed to? Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Maria Bello, and that blue-eyed beast Aidan Quinn. The DUMBO Neighborhood Alliance is ready to take down these enemies, and have asked the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting to limit the number of productions allowed in the neighborhood... but a city spokeswoman told them that "rest periods for streets within neighborhoods [will be] determined on a case-by-case basis."
Chances are this won't appease locals like Gus Sheha of the DUMBO Neighborhood Foundation, who told the paper, "It's impossible to find a parking spot these days." And forget about parking, what about the bright lights that sometimes illuminate the neighborhood's iconic, picturesque bridge! Too bad it's so loud in the neighborhood no one can hear those tiny violins.
