Have you been hoarding away your old prom dresses? Free up some precious space in your closet for a good cause, because it's not like you're really going to ever attend one of those adult hipster prom theme nights in Williamsburg or wherever anyway. And this year, the Westchester-based organization Operation PROM is setting up drop-off points in Brooklyn for the first time ever, according to Brokelyn.

Operation PROM collects dresses and gowns for those who may not have the means to purchase their own. And the boys aren't being left out, men’s formalwear will be accepted as well. The organization was founded in 2005 by Nicole D’Allaco, in part due to the increasing price of prom tickets. Add the ticket price to the cost of the dress, hair, manicures, limo, and that bottle of Schnapp's you're going to sneak in, and each student is left spending hundreds of dollars.

So who will your dress go to? ”In order to receive a dress, students must be in good academic standing and receive an invitation from their school’s guidance counselor, social worker, or teacher to attend the dress drive,” according to Shaniqua Schloss, co-director of Operation PROM Brooklyn.
