Over at the Dave Matthews Band message board Ants Marching, there's an entire thread about the rumor going around that the band may take to Governors Island this summer, and the Governors Island Twitter now seems to be feeding the rumor with ReTweets. (According to EW, the band will be announcing plans to play series of three-day festivals this summer.) Will Dave be taking to the city's most gorgeous venue this summer? And will he dump human waste into the East River on his way there?
One fan notes, "it doesn't make sense to me to do Governors Island for only 20k people, why not use Randall's which holds 65 easy... it will be incredible to be at a small festival like that but it makes absolutely no sense." Since message boarding-posting frat hippies cannot be trusted with factual details, we've contacted Governors Island to find out what the capacity for a concert like this would be, and if such a concert would be taking place (and if it's a 3-day festival does that mean that you can camp out on the island? Because that would be amazing.)
At a DMB press conference in Chicago recently, "the lead guy from Jam Productions [allegedly] said venue is on an island outside NY." Stay tuned. And Phish, we know you wanna go big, but maybe next year follow Dave's lead on this one.
