As if the great weather and new Grimaldi's wasn't reason enough to head out to Coney Island, the New York Aquarium just added a weedy scorpionfish to its collection! The magnificently colorful scorpion fish—they can also be green, lavender, blue, and many other colors—is true to its name, using its expertly-coiffed dorsal spines to sting predators. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, these pretty little creatures are also one of the most venomous of fish, meaning that they are as dangerous as a bee sting—which for some, we realize, is no joke.

The new weedy scorpionfish, who has yet to receive a name, will now appear in the Explore the Shore exhibit.
