Ladies and gentleman, New York City may soon be without a traditional Blockbuster store. The Bensonhurst Bean today notes the sad (we guess?) news that the final Blockbuster Video in Brooklyn is getting ready to shut its doors for good on April 7th. They stopped renting movies on Saturday! All of which just goes to remind you that someday you are going to have to explain to your children what a "video rental store" was. Think about that.
Luckily, we aren't quite there yet. Though Blockbuster isn't nearly as omnipresent as it once was (and we always preferred Tower Video anyway) it does still have a few (read: four) full stores left in the city along with "Blockbuster Express" locations. But that is little comfort for those who can't get to them or don't know/can't stream movies at home:
Employees at the Bensonhurst storefront report that loyal Blockbuster customers are reeling from the announcement.
“An elderly woman actually cried when she heard the news,” said an employee, who asked to remain anonymous. “She said she didn’t understand the internet and wasn’t sure how she’d watch movies now.”
On the plus side, you can still rent borrow movies from the NYPL?
