Using data from Echo Nest, which TIME calls "a music intelligence platform to hugely popular services like Rdio, Spotify and MTV," the director of developer platforms there came up with the above map... which says New Yorkers love James Blake. In fact, their numbers claim James Blake is our "favorite band." Listen, James Blake is a fine talent, but... our favorite?
The man behind the study says he "sampled the listening preferences of about a quarter million listeners that have a zip code associated with their account. I aggregated these listeners into regions (state, regional and all-US). To compare regions I..." whatever, this is clearly all Junk Science. We demand some numbers for NYC only.
