Sorry Green Day fans, looks like there's been no headway on getting the band to play Central Park this summer, and your failure to make it happen has now left an opening for... the Black Eyed Peas. Yep, New York City's newest music educators will be performing a free concert on the Great Lawn on June 9th.
While the show is free, you will need to get a free ticket to enter, which will be distributed via a giveaway starting on May 11th (there will also be VIP tickets available for purchase). The concert will benefit Robin Hood and its mission to fight poverty in New York City... and it will help fund those much needed Black Eyed Peas’ music academies.
How big is this concert going to be? They're planning on giving away 54,000 tickets. Fergie says, “We are thrilled to follow in the footsteps of icons such as Simon & Garfunkel and Diana Ross by performing a free concert for our fans in Central Park." (Sigh.) When Bon Jovi played the park in 2008, scalpers marked up free tickets to $1500! How much do you think people are willing to pay for this?:
