Bill Clinton was this close to appearing on Dancing With The Stars, but ultimately decided that he was too busy to stoop as low as Bristol Palin or Donny Osmond. "I told them I didn't have the time to train for it," the former leader of the free world told Rachel Ray, "You know you actually go out there and you train, you really work at it. So I had to pass. But I think it's a hoot." Sources close to the show tell us that the producers were furious when Clinton declined, and decided to spite millions of eyeballs by picking Nancy Grace instead.
"I have a 92-year-old mother-in-law who watches it religiously and she knows much more about popular culture than Hillary and I do," Clinton said. "She thinks I would be really cool if I made it, but I had to pass." Clinton wouldn't have been the first former President to perform on a popular TV show, as Harry Truman once appeared on the short-lived program Name That Un-American Communist.
Clinton did say that he and Hillary would pick up dancing as soon as she leaves office: "Just last night Hillary said to me, 'You know, when I'm not Secretary of State anymore, we should go take dancing lessons.' So we'll start with the tango." Sorry Bill, that may have to wait another four-to-eight years.
