Last night Gothamist headed over to a loft, overlooking a beautiful red sunset, for the Free Arts NYC auction and benefit.
While celebrities and those "famous for being famous" mingled in their Manolos with the likes of us and our Dr. Scholls sandals, there was also art being bid on. We couldn't afford any, but if we could we may have put our money down on that photo to the left. Or, more realistically, that Cynthia Rowley dress we saw hanging on the wall. What can we say, seeing Karolina Kurkova up close made us want to dress better. And go to the gym. And curse our genes.
If you'd like to support the arts but missed out last night, you've got another shot tonight (and we're guessing just about every other night in this city). There's a new art non-profit in Chelsea with a gallery space and special curators for each solo exhibit. Past curators have included Bruce Nauman, Paul Auster, Atom Egoyan. The current exhibit is curated by Sue De Beer. Gothamist loves it some Auster.
The summer benefit party for CUE promises a night of art, music and cocktails to help support Modern ArtWorks, a program promoting art in local public schools. Featuring paintings by middle and high school students there will also be live music, hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and an after-party.
Details: Tonight att CUE Art Foundation [511 West 25th Street] from 7-11PM.
Tickets for the event are $50. Purchase them here.
