Is Ayn Rand's objectivist tome finally coming to the big screen? The rights to turn Atlas Shrugged into a feature film were rumored to have been purchased by billionaire Philip Anschutz's production company, Crusader Entertainment, back in 2003, but here we are in 2011 and... nothing. This week there have been new reports of the film version, however, and the AJC notes that it's actually producer John Aglialoro with the rights, and he's decided to go all low-budget with it. (Hello, Galt's Gulch would have looked sweet in IMAX!)

While past rumors have included castings like Angelina Jolie as Dagny Taggart, the names have become smaller—check out the IMDB page—Taylor Schilling will play Taggart, and Grant Bowler will portray Hank Rearden. At least the Tea Partiers will be lining up.

The film will finally hit the big screen on April 15th... tax day. (Below, more from the set of Atlas Shrugged, and the trailer for Rand's The Fountainhead, circa 1949.)
