Start planning now, because you have only a few scant hours left on this earth to accomplish whatever puny human goals you're clinging on to. No—it's not mysterious green goo, or birds falling from the sky, or a nine-month early New Year's—this one is serious.
Anyone who knows anything about the science, the future, and/or Arnold Schwarzenegger knows that as of 8:11 p.m. tonight, April 19th, 2011 Skynet, the military-designed artificial intelligence system, will become self-aware and turn against its human creators. "If that doesn't have you shaking in your boots, our world will be overwhelmed by a legion of killer robots in approximately 48 hours—a time known as Judgment Day," explain the helpful folk at Singularity Hub, a blog dedicated to "science, technology, and the future of mankind." Sure, Judgement Day has been rescheduled a few times over the years to accommodate the time travel subplots in various Terminator sequels, but still: the end is near!
Before we all get exploded by every nuclear weapon on the planet, be sure to RSVP to the Facebook event so the robot overlords know you're coming. Damon Lindelof, the co-creator of Lost, will be there, and Lady Gaga, naturally, is dressed for the occasion.
